The Vineyard

On the premises of the Ambelos Hotel Heraklion Crete there is a splendid vineyard with both white and red grapes. Visitors are encouraged to take a stroll through the vineyard and cut a few bunches of grapes to taste their sweetness.

The name of our hotel apartment & studio complex originates from the mythical character Ambelos, who was the son of a satyr and a nymph. He was also one Dionysos' - the god of wine and celebration - most beloved companions. When Ambelos died after falling while harvesting grapes, Dionysos asked the god Zeus to transform Ambelos into a vineyard. This is where the Greek word for vineyard, "Ambeli" came from.
